Amazigh Women Artwork
A series of North African women portraits
During the pandemic, I began developing a figurative series centered on Amazigh women, celebrating the richness of their cultural identity through traditional facial tattoos, jewelry, and ceremonial dress. Rooted in themes of memory, heritage, and belonging, the series became a deeply personal exploration of my connection to home, ancestry, and tradition.
Working through a mixed-media approach, I combined handmade watercolor pigments crafted from non-toxic materials with ink, colored pencils, acrylic markers, gold and silver leaf. The layering of materials mirrors the complexity and resilience of Amazigh culture itself blending fragility, strength, ornamentation, and storytelling within each portrait.
Through this body of work, I seek to preserve and honor ancestral visual traditions while creating contemporary representations of Amazigh womanhood that speak to identity, resilience, and cultural continuity.
